Two more arrested in SI recruitment scam

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, Oct 9 - Two more accused were arrested in connection with the Sub Inspector recruitment scam even as PK Dutta, the prime accused in the case, was taken by the CID to Bhargav Grand, where searches were conducted in his presence.

Bhargav Grand is the hotel owned by the former DIG of Assam Police.

After reaching Bhargav Grand at Betkuchi, investigators asked Dutta to explain how things unfolded vis--vis leakage of the answer scripts and conduct of mock test.

Meanwhile, investigators today arrested Soroj Sarma and Rubul Hazarika from Guwahati and Nalbari, respectively.

Sarma, who was on the run for the last couple of weeks, was arrested immediately after his arrival at the Lokopriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport, while Hazarika is a stakeholder of Akshay Communication, the agency which was responsible for conducting the SI examination.

Meanwhile, the State Level Police Recruitment Board has stopped the process of two ongoing examinations, including the physical standard test/physical efficiency tests for constables of Assam Police and digital viva interview for the special recruitment drive for PWD with immediate effect.

This comes after the Board was informed by the authorities investigating the criminal cases related to leakage of the question paper of the SI examination that during the course of investigation, the names of some individuals connected to the consortium conducting the examination have come to adverse notice. Based on the above information, the SLPRB has decided to immediately disengage the consortium from all ongoing processes of various recruitment examinations and the fresh dates will be intimated as soon as possible, an official release stated.
