KOKRAJHAR, April 9 Two persons died on the spot and many others seriously injured when an unruly crowd of AIUDF supporters, enraged by the failure of the AIUDF president Badruddin Ajmal's helicopter to land at the poll campaign ground at Bhomrabil under Gossaigaon PS in Kokrajhar district, clashed with BPF supporters.

Security force in large numbers rushed to the spot immediately and fired in the air to disperse the crowd and rescued BPF leaders SK Bwismuthiary, MP, and Sobharam Basumatary, who were addressing the poll meeting, from the spot.

The helicopter failed to land at the ground reportedly due to technical difficulties and this enraged the AIUDF supporters, who were waiting at the venue for a long while.

The irritated crowd first vandalized the stage and then set ablaze a vehicle of the State Fire Brigade Department. They then attacked the nearby poll meeting of the BPF by pelting stones. Two persons - Giasuddin Skeikh and Joyanuddin Sheikh - died on the spot, while several others were severely injured in the clash. The rampaging AIUDF supporters also snatched cameras from the media persons present there.

The situation is tense but under control, police said.
