By The Assam Tribune

New Delhi, May 18 (IANS): A human trafficking racket has been busted with the arrest of two people including a woman, police said on Tuesday, adding seven girls including three minors and two boys had been rescued.

The inter-state human trafficking gang operated in Assam and West Bengal and along the India-Bangladesh border.

"The arrested have been identified as Ismail Ahmed, 32 and Babita, 25. While Ahmed is from Nowagaon in Assam, Babita runs an illegal placement agency here," said Deputy Commissioner of Police Ashok Chand.

Police arrested Ahmed on May 5 from Shakurpur when he allegedly struck a deal with a decoy for selling a minor girl for Rs 1.5 lakh, said the officer. "During interrogation, Ahmed disclosed that there are brokers/agents operating in Assam, West Bengal and along the India-Bangladesh border. They procure minor children on the pretext of providing them better lives in Delhi," added Chand.
