Two held for demanding money over phone

SILCHAR, Nov 14 - Based on specific inputs, Cachar Police apprehended two persons on Friday night for allegedly demanding money over phone. The apprehended persons have been identified as Sahinuddin, a resident of Ratabari constituency and Jahed Ahmed of the same constituency under Karimganj district. Two mobile phones and sim cards were also recovered from their possession, police said.

According to the police, on November 9, a person named Azmal Hussain, a citizen of Rongpur area in Silchar lodged an FIR alleging that he received a text message on his phone from an unknown number demanding a cash amount of Rs 2 lakh followed by a phone call confirming the message.

�The unknown person threatened me with dire consequences if I informed this to the police,� the complaint by Azmal read.

Cachar Superintendent of Police Rakesh Roushan informed that a case was registered bearing number 2897 under Section 386/507 of the IPC and the phone number was tracked in order to nab the culprits.
