Two held at Jorhat in separate incidents

JORHAT, Aug 23 - In two separate incidents, two persons were arrested by the police in the district earlier this week on charges of threatening traders and assaulting one shopkeeper.

In the first incident, the Jorhat police arrested one Manoj Sarmah here on charges of creating trouble and threatening traders on a regular basis while goods were being unloaded by traders from train rakes at the JPR train goods yard.

Jorhat Superintendent of Police Vaibhav Nimbalkar told The Assam Tribune that Sarmah was arrested on the basis of a case registered against him with the Jorhat police station following a complaint lodged by a traders� body recently.

However, Sarmah was released on bail later, the SP informed. In the second incident, the police arrested one Pratap Gogoi from the Nakachari area under Deberapar police outpost of the Mariani police station on charges of demanding money and assaulting a shopkeeper � Dungarmal Pareek � of number 7 Balijan village under Deberapar police outpost, on Sunday.

Gogoi along with his accomplice Debojit Gogoi were also charged for molesting Pareek�s wife during the incident. Debojit is currently absconding, the police said.

Child domestic help rescued: A child reportedly employed as a domestic help was rescued on Tuesday from the Sivasagar residence of Hiren Gogoi, Inspector of Schools (Golaghat).

A Sivasagar district administration official told this reporter that a team led by Sivasagar Assistant Commissioner Priyanku Sharma rescued the girl during a drive against child labour.

The official further informed that an FIR has been registered with the Sivasagar police station in this regard.
