Two fined for breaking quarantine rule

By Correspondent

AIZAWL, June 4 - Two men have been fined Rs 1,000 each for venturing out of a government quarantine facility in Siaha district.

An official source said the duo left the quarantine centre on Tuesday to repair their phones, and returned to the facility after doing so. The technician who repaired the phones had no idea that his customers were under quarantine. He will be home-quarantined along with his family members, the source said. The autorickshaw the two quarantine inmates took to the mobile repair shop, has not been traced yet.

Venturing out of a quarantine centre is an offence under Section 4(7) the Mizoram (Containment and Prevention of COVID-19) Ordinance, which is liable to be punished with a fine of up to Rs 5,000.

As a precautionary measure, the Siaha District Magistrate has imposed a total lockdown in the district for three days from Wednesday.
