Two-day Tinsukia AAPA meet concludes

DOOMDOOMA, Oct 24 - The second biennial conference of the Tinsukia district committee of the All Assam Poets� Association (AAPA) was held recently with a two-day programme at Kakopothar near here.

On the first day after flag hoisting and smriti tarpan, drawing and recitation competitions were held among the students. In the evening, the delegate session was held.

On the second day, poets meet and book release ceremony was held which was chaired by the vice-president of Tinsukia district committee of AAPA, Diganta Kumar Bhajani. The programme was inaugurated by another vice-president Runjun Saikia. Several books were released by the advisor of Tinsukia district committee of AAPA, Anubha Baruah.

Later in the day, the open session of the conference was held which was chaired by the president of Tinsukia district committee of AAPA, Dr Aruna Gogoi Baruah, and was inaugurated by the former president of AAPA, Dr Manik Saikia.

The open session was also addressed by AAPA president Anij-Uj-Jaman, former president Prema Gogoi, general secretary Gangamohan Mili, former general secretary Paragjyoti Mahanta, former publication secretary Manoranjan Borgohain and eminent critic Uday Kumar Sharma.

The magazine of Tinsukia District AAPA, Kabyagandha, was released by poet Hitesh Gogoi.

In the open session, three awards were conferred on three eminent poets. Poet Hari Borkakoti Memorial Lifetime Achievement Award was conferred on poet Ujjwal Saikia. Jadu Borpujari Memorial Award was conferred on Hitesh Gogoi and Bhimkanta Burhagohain (Mama) Memorial Award was conferred on Kaustabhmoni Saikia Dutta.

On the other hand, six eminent poets were felicitated in the open session. They are � Lalit Chandra Sharma, Gakul Sharma, Surendra Nath Dahutia, Durga Nath Ujir, Jatin Gogoi and Diganta Kumar Bhajani.

In the delegate session of the conference, a 21-member new executive committee of Tinsukia district AAPA was formed with Hitesh Gogoi as president and Surendra Gogoi as secretary.
