GUWAHATI, Nov 1 � �Assampex-2014�, a two-day philately exhibition organized by the Assam Postal Circle for promoting philately, the hobby of postage stamp collection among students, children, got under way at the Don Bosco School auditorium, Panbazar here.

The two-day event will conclude on November 2, sources said.

Inaugurated by chief guest, B.B. Dave, Chief Postmaster General, Assam Circle, in presence of Gauhati University Vice Chancellor Dr Mridul Hazarika, who was the guest of honour.

The exhibition has been organized to promote philately, once regarded as the king of all hobbies. Besides, programmes like stamp design competition and quiz, competitions have also been organized to motivate children and students to enter into the enlightened world of postage stamps. Organizers have urged all to visit �ASSAMPEX-2014� and to make the exhibition a success.

Among those who attended today�s inaugural function were I. Pangernungsang, Postmaster General, Dibrugarh Region; Father Sebastian Kuricheal, Don Bosco School; Dr. Amarjyoti Choudhury, Pro Vice-Chancellor, Tezpur University, among others.
