Two-day event on rural innovation held

GUWAHATI, July 9 - The Centre for Rural Technology (CRT) at IIT Guwahati, in association with Innovior and AIILSG, conducted a two-day event called �1st Rural Dialogue� on July 7 and 8.

The event was held to bring together representatives from rural communities face-to-face with leading policy makers, technocrats, rural entrepreneurs, members of financial institutions, members of district administration and village panchayats and renowned experts to discuss and exchange experiences and good practices on issues related to innovation in rural areas and to provide awareness on various potential solutions.

Dr R Chidambaram, former Principal Scientific Advisor to Government of India, inaugurated the event and chaired a session on �Innovation to enhance prosperity and well-being of rural communities�.

He highlighted the importance of well-thought financial products to cover risk of budding entrepreneurs.

Key officials from the Indian Institute of Entrepreneurship, UNICEF, NEERI, MS Swaminathan Research Foundation and other organisations deliberated on customisation and delivery models of various technologies for resource-crunched areas.

The event also showcased cutting-edge technologies, latest innovations, useful and replicable ideas and actions on various aspects of rural development.

Interactive sessions and closed group discussions were held on the occasion to find out concrete steps to augment rural business and rural entrepreneurship through innovation in technological side as well as in management side.
