TURA, Jan 8 - The four accused involved in the rape of two minors have been arrested by West Garo Hills police. The culprits were absconding since the shocking Christmas-eve rape of two minors, who were forcibly taken away.
According to sources, the four accused had forcefully taken three minor girls from William Point area of Tura to another location where they were raped. One of the three minors managed to escape.
A complaint was lodged on December 24 that at around 10.30 pm, one Chanang Ch Marak along with three accomplices abducted three minor girls in a vehicle from near William Point in Tura and took them to an unknown place and gangraped two of them. One of the girls managed to escape.
The four accused have been identified as Chanang Marak (24), Junbirth Marak (22), Pringbal Sangma (20) and Goldistar Marak (24). All the four are residents of Sankarigre near Garobadha in West Garo Hills.
Another minor kidnapped: In another case, a 14 year- old from Dalu Zikapara village was forcefully taken by three men before being dumped near Bokmagre petrol pump in the outskirts of Tura.
According to sources, the mentally challenged girl was near her house when she was forcefully pushed into an auto at about 6 pm on January 6.
�She claimed to have fallen unconscious possibly after drinking spiked water given by the men. She later woke up having no recollection of what had happened near the petrol pump. Someone alerted us and we rushed to pick her up from the spot,� said social activist, Jaynie N Sangma. She was rescued at about 4 pm last evening.
The minor was later handed over to District Child Protection Unit (DCPU) which later took the minor to the police station for a medical check up. However, no case could be filed as the girl insisted that she had not been sexually assaulted and insisted to go home with her father who came to the Tura Police Station.
