Tripura�s wish-list ready for PM

AGARTALA, Nov 26 � Prime Minister Narendra Modi would dedicate the second unit of Palatana power plant to the nation on December 1 next, Chief Minister Manik Sarkar confirmed here on Tuesday.

Speaking to media persons at Civil Secretariat here, he said Prime Minister is scheduled to land at Agartala Airport on December 1 after inaugurating the Hornbill Festival in Nagaland and will fly to Palatana by a chopper where he will dedicate the second unit of the power plant.

Thereafter, the PM will meet the Council of Ministers at the Civil Secretariat on the same day, Chief Minister said adding that he would leave the State in the evening.

During the visit, the State Government will place a wish-list before the Prime Minister for his consideration.

Setting up of a fertiliser manufacturing unit in Unakoti district as a joint venture with ONGC will be on the wish-list. �We will certainly push the plan for the fertiliser plant, which is losing its ground with the passage of time. The government wants to have a fertiliser factory here to ensure optimum utilisation of natural gas�, he said.

Asserting that the government is aiming to make the State an educational hub, Sarkar said, �Establishing of IIT, IIM and Agricultural University will also find place in the wish-list. If such institutions come up here, students from outside the State will also study in these educational bodies�, he said.

Besides, the government will also seek Prime Minister�s help in boosting communication through Bangladesh.

The government will pursue access to Ashuganj port by enhancing facilities there. �If Ashuganj port is opened for use, the entire Northeastern region will be benefitted�, he pointed out.

Sarkar also said he will reiterate the demand to undertake BG conversion work from two sides to expedite the work. On the Bishalgarh scam, he said, �It was the government which has started investigation into the misappropriation of fund in the name of development works.�
