Tripuras BG rail progress on right track

By Correspondent

AGARTALA, Nov 7 - The broad gauge (BG) conversion work up to Udaipur would be completed by December, if the current pace of works continues, said HK Jaggi, General Manager (GM) of NFR, here.

The GM, who arrived here on Wednesday last, has inspected ongoing railway works at Udaipur, Sabroom and Agartala.

During inspection at Agartala Railway Station, the GM pointed out some loopholes in the existing works and asked the authority to make necessary change.

Before leaving for Silchar en route to Kumarghat, he said that the BG conversion work up to Udaipur has been making good process. If the current pace of works continues, Udaipur will be on the countrys BG map by December itself, he claimed.

As per the schedule, the BG rail track up to Udaipur would be ready for use by March 31, 2016, while Sabroom would be brought into BG track by 2018.

The NFR sources said that the GMs trolley run was good up to Dharmanagar. He also inspected ongoing railway works up to Silchar via Badarpur and Karimganj.

The BG conversion work has already been completed in between Lumding and Silchar. Now, goods trains are running on the newly built GB track. However, CRS inspection is yet to be conducted.

During the visit, Jaggi met Chief Minister Manik Sarkar and requested him to take up construction of road over bridge and road under bridge with the Ministry of Railways since they were not included in the railway projects.

At Teliamura, BG works have got stalled with locals insisting for road over bridge to avoid any untoward incident after introduction of super-fast train.

Since these were not included in the project, the NFR doesnt have allocation to take up these additional components. I request the Chief Minister to take up construction of two issues with the Railways Ministry or the Centre so that road over bridge and road under bridge could be taken up, he told the media.
