By Correspondent

AGARTALA, Dec 15 - To ensure peaceful elections to Tripura Assembly, the State Government would seek more Central paramilitary forces this time, said Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Sriram Tarinikanta.

In the 2013 Assembly elections, the EC has deployed 260 companies of additional Central forces apart from 11 battalion of Tripura State Rifles (TSR).

This time, we are going to demand more additional forces to guard each polling booth, counting halls and strong rooms in effective manner, he said while briefing the media in the Civil Secretariat here on Friday.

However, the CEO said exact number of Central forces to be required for conducting Assembly elections would be finalised only after withdrawal of nomination papers of contesting candidates.

In order to ensure transparency during the entire poll process, there will be three Static Surveillance Team (SSTs) and Flying Squads for each Assembly constituency. Besides, there will be arrangement for webcasting of polling process as it had been done in States like Manipur, Himachal Pradesh and Gujarat, he said.

The CEO said the State has already received 4,080 VVPATs and adequate number of EVMs to conduct the elections scheduled for early next year. This time, the State Election machinery will use various IT applications like Samadhan and Subidha as per instruction of the EC, he said.

While Samadhan IT applications can be used for lodging complaint, Subidha will prove handy to seek permission of holding rally or public meeting, he informed.

Tarinikanta further said Media Monitoring Committees will be in place to keep a close eye on paid news which has appeared as a menace in the electoral process.
