Tripura to rope in leading NGOs for capacity building of workforce

By Correspondent

AGARTALA, Aug 18 - The State Education department has decided to rope in the countrys leading non-government organisations (NGOs) having proven skills to augment the capacity of existing workforce of the department.

A five-member panel comprising Directors of Higher Education, Secondary Education, Elementary Education and SCERT will select at least 20 NGOs to build the capacity of the departments workforce.

An MoU with the NGOs would be signed after the selection process and the entire capacity building exercise would last for two years, said Education Minister Ratan Lal Nath here today.

An amount of Rs 67.25 lakh will be spent for this purpose as the government will not pay the flight fare and for food and lodging to the officials of the selected NGOs.

Nath said the State Government has been giving top priority to boost education system in the State. As part of the plan, several initiatives- instruction of NCERT syllabus, Naya Disha, change in school timing, training for teachers and examination from Class II to IX - have already been introduced. Now, we need to oversee the whole process for proper implementation of these steps, he explained.

The NGOs will be engaged in different types of academic activities - methodology, designing books and curriculum, vocational training and sustainable development of education, he said.

Nath said they would also focus on how to educate students with learning disability.

The entire plan would be placed in the next State Cabinet meeting for its approval. Once the Cabinet clears it, the department would roll out the whole exercise.

Nath hoped that if the plan is successfully implemented, the States education system would be at par with the national standard and for that, the government is working very hard.
