AGARTALA, March 12 - As promised in BJP�s election manifesto, Tripura Council of Ministers has decided to form an expert committee to implement 7th Central Pay Commission (CPC) recommendations for the government employees and pensioners.
�Since model code of conduct is in force due to by-elections in Charilam Assembly constituency, we can�t give much information on 7th CPC but the new government is very much positive to implement it�, said Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb after the first Cabinet meeting on Saturday.
Around two lakh employees (1.40 lakh) and pensioners (50,000) will be benefited if the recommendations of 7th CPC are implemented.
Deb said the Cabinet also approved a proposal to hand over to CBI the probe into murders of two journalists � Santanu Bhowmik and Sudip Dutta Bhowmik fulfilling a long-pending demand of journalist bodies.
Another important decision was taken to rename Agartala Airport after late Maharaja Bir Bikram Kishore Manikya.
Promising to provide good governance to the people of the State, the Chief Minister exhorted the officials and staff to be punctual in order to improve work culture in all government departments.
On his government�s priority sectors, Deb said his government will put priority on good governance, improvement of law and order situation, building infrastructure and widening of employment opportunity.
While briefing the media, Agriculture Minister Pranajit Singha Roy said the first session of the State Assembly will begin from March 23 next.
The Cabinet also approved a proposal to appoint veteran leader Ratan Chakraborty as the Pro-tem Speaker and he will be sworn in on March 14 by Governor Tathagata Roy.
The newly-elected MLAs will take oath on March 15 and 16 as decided in the Cabinet meeting of BJP-IPFT Government, official sources said.
