Tripura, Manipur CJs take oath

AGARTALA, March 23 � Justice Deepak Gupta was sworn in as Chief Justice of High Court of Tripura at a simple ceremony at Governor House here on Saturday.

Governor DY Patil administered the oath of office and secrecy to Justice Gupta in presence Chief Minister Manik Sarkar and other dignitaries.

While Justice UB Saha was sworn in as Judge, Justice SC Das and Justice Subhasish Talapatra have been administered oath as Addl Judge of the newly floated High Court.

Chief Justice of India (CJI) Altamas Kabir will formally inaugurate the High Court of Tripura on March 26.

While talking to media, Chief Minister said, �Today is a historic day for Tripura and a red letter day for the people of the State. People have been demanding a separate High Court for 30 years�.

It was the former president of High Court Bar Association Apanshu Mohan Lodh who first raised the demand for a separate High Court for the State.

Newmai News adds: Justice Abhay Manohar Sapre took oath as Chief Justice of High Court of Manipur on Saturday.

Manipur Governor Gurbachan Jagat administered the oath of office and secrecy to Justice Sapre during a function at the Raj Bhavan here.

He was earlier Judge of the Chhattisgarh High Court.

Speaking to reporters after the oath-taking ceremony, Justice Sapre assured the new High Court of Manipur will soon ensure expeditious disposal of all the pending cases in the Gauhati High Court so as to guarantee the benefit of judiciary to the people of the State.

Justice Sapre, the new Chief Justice of Manipur High Court later administered the oath of office and secrecy to Nameirakpam Kotiswor, former Judge of Gauhati High Court, as Judge of the State�s separate High Court. Union Law Minister Ashwani Kumar and Chief Justice of India Altamas Kabir will formally inaugurate the Manipur High Court on March 25.
