By Correspondent

AGARTALA, March 8 The long standing demand for a separate High Court for Tripura is now finally becoming a reality.

Come March 25, the separate High Court would be finally inaugurated at a simple ceremony here, according to official sources. Himachal Pradesh High Court Justice Deepak Gupta will be taking oath as Chief Justice of Tripura High Court on March 23, Law Secretary DM Jamatia said on Friday.

However, there were some differences between the State Government and the Union Law Ministry over the number of Judges for the Tripura High Court. While the State Government has been demanding for at least five judges, it was finally decided to have a maximum of four judges.

The demand for having a separate High Court has been long pending from the time it was first demanded by MP Khagen Das in the Parliament way back in 2005.

Chief Justice of Gauhati High Court Adarsh Kumar Goel will be present in the oath taking ceremony and for the inauguration. Chief Justice of Supreme Court Altamas Kabir and Union Law Minister Ashwani Kumar might also attend the function.
