Tripura Govt to reopen BJP member murder case

By Correspondent

AGARTALA, Dec 27 - The Tripura Government has decided to reopen a case related to the murder of a BJP member three years ago.

Chanmohan Tripura, who was the chief of the partys Janajati Yuva Morcha, Gandacherra Mandal committee, and also an elected member of the Dalpati ADC village committee, was killed in Dhalai district on December 26, 2016. The BJP alleged that he was killed by the Communist Party of India (Marxist) cadres.

Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb said the sacrifice of Chanmohan Tripura would not go in vain and his killers would surely get exemplary punishment.

The gruesome murder had shocked the entire State, but the chargesheet was prepared at the behest of the then Left rulers to ensure that the killers go scot-free, the Chief Minister said.

Due to the poor chargesheet, all perpetrators were acquitted by a trial court. But the BJP-IPFT Government will give justice to the victims family and that is why, we have decided to reopen the case, he said while addressing a rally at Gandacherra in Dhalai district on Thursday.

The rally was organised to mark the third death anniversary of Chanmohan Tripura by Raima Valley BJP Mandal.

Deb said the BJP has as many as 36 MLAs in the 60-member Assembly and the party was invincible in the recently concluded three-tier Panchayat elections. The BJP has consolidated its base in the State in the past three years because of the sacrifices made by the likes of Chanmohan Tripura, Nishikanta Chakma and Gourhari Malsom, Deb said.

The Chief Minister alleged that a number of BJP karyakartas were killed after the Communists lost ground in the States tribal belts.

The BJP believes in empowerment of the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) in the true sense. The State has already submitted certain proposals like increasing the number of TTAADC members from 30 to 50, formation of a territorial council, and a package for tribal welfare to the Centre, he stated.

Deb promised to spend Rs 200 crore on pisciculture in the lakes of Gandacherra. It will create 2,500 jobs for the locals. We are in talks with fish farmers of Andhra Pradesh in this regard, he said.

Patirram Tripura, an elected member of the TTAADC who had won the elections on a CPI (M) ticket but later joined the BJP, was welcomed by the Chief Minister.

Patirram was completely sidelined after his abortive bid to topple the CPI(M)-controlled tribal council. He was an influential member of the Communist partys Gandacherra divisional committee.
