AGARTALA, Dec 14 If things go as per schedule, the land acquisition problem in West Tripuras Bishalgarh subdivision for the Agartala-Udaipur rail extension project will be cleared by end of this month.

Residents of four revenue villages in the subdivision were vocal against the land acquisition initiative for the ambitious rail project virtually stalling the construction work for laying tracks.

The government could not hand over the land to the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) authority as per the target of October because of strong opposition from villagers.

However, the problem centering land acquisition measuring 5.50 km looks almost solved with the State Government giving all-out efforts to convince the unwilling villagers.

We have already given land at southern part of Harishnagar Tea Estate to the NFR authorities and acquisition process is almost completed at Laxmibill area after releasing of money to the affected families, said PK Das, Land Acquisition Collector (LAC), Bishalgarh said on Wednesday.

He said the process is on to acquire land at Nayapara and Brajapur and the government will be able to hand over the land to NFR by end of this month.

As per the schedule, the 44 km Agartala-Udaipur rail extension project is supposed to the completed by March 2012 provided the required land is handed over to the NFR within December.

Sources said, to meet the target the construction works are on in both ends Udaipur and Agartala. The work will get momentum once the problem related to land acquisition is solved at Bishalgarh subdivision, said an official. If the land is not handed over to NFR by December, then the deadline will have to be rescheduled.

A high level meeting involving stakeholders is scheduled to be held at Civil Secretariat here on December 30 next to review the progress of the on-going rail project.

The rail link upto Sabroom is scheduled to the completed by March 2013 next as per the announcement made by NFR.
