AGARTALA, Aug 23 - Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD)�s letter asking the teachers for undergoing training and acquiring minimum educational qualification by March 31, 2019, to save their jobs, is a hasty step after spending over two years without any exercise, said Tripura Education Minister Tapan Chakraborty.
Under Right to Education Act 2009, a five-year relaxation of training for the teachers was given to all the States and it got expired in August 2015. �Why the Centre or MHRD did not take any step to upgrade the skill and educational qualification after expiry of the extension time�, he asked.
Chakraborty was speaking to reporters�on Wednesday�after media reports of suppressing the MHRD�s letter sent to the State Government on August 3 last.
�We all were in confusion after receiving such faulty letter from MHRD. The NCERT, a statutory body of the Central Government had said that the teachers who had joined before September 3, 2001, need not undergo training but the MHRD letter did not say anything on the vital point�, he pointed out.
Picking up more holes in the letter, Chakraborty said there was no clarification on the fee structure for D.El. Ed degree. �Union Minister for HRD Prakash Javedkar has had a video conference on the letter to clear all doubts recently but he could not clarify in some issues leaving the State Government in a fix�, he said.
�Even there was no clarification what a teacher will do if he or she goes to retirement within next two years. Other States are also facing the same problem�, he claimed.
Director of Elementary Education Kunatal Das was present in the press conference. She said the department has already begun a process for enrolling teachers for training as well acquiring minimum educational qualification (50 per cent) as per the letter of MHRD. The on-line registration process will continue till�September 15�next.
