Tripura Congress to gherao Electoral officers

By Correspondent

AGARTALA, Dec 28 To ensure error-free photo electoral rolls, Congress would gherao all the Electoral Registration Officers (EROs) on December 31 next.

Not only inclusion of names of forged voters, names of several genuine voters have been deleted from the voters list despite having all the necessary documents, alleged Asish Saha, general secretary and MLA at a press conference at Congress Bhavan here today.

Saha alleged the Left Front has been trying to overlook the directives of the Election Commission in regard to the revision of photo electoral rolls. We will organise Statewide movement demanding registration of genuine voters in the electoral rolls and discard the documents of fake voters, said Saha.

Later, showing dissatisfaction in the verification conducted by the delegates of Election Commission, PCC spokesperson Dr Ashok Sinha said, During investigation, the delegates of Election Commission found that names of some voters have been removed from the voter list without issuing any notice to them. In spite of the best efforts by the Election Commission, proper electoral roll is not there. It is mainly caused due to the biased role played by the ELOs and BLOs, he charged.

Amidst the gherao movement, six special observers of EC have landed here and started verification of complaints lodged by Congress. They came after PCC president Sudip Roy Barman lodged a complaint with the EC in respect to the draft photo electoral rolls.

Saha further said altogether 1,85,000 unemployment allowance forms were distributed by the PCC till Thursday. Out of them, over 90,000 Left Front supporters also took the unemployment allowance forms. It shows that the unemployed are still deprived during the reign of CPM, added Saha.

It may be noted that Congress has declared to provide unemployment allowances if it is voted to power in the ensuing Assembly elections.
