Tripura BG track set to get safety clearance

By Correspondent

AGARTALA, Aug 28 - The newly-laid 22-km BG track from Belonia to Sabroom in South Tripura district is exceptionally well and it will surely get clearance for introducing passenger train service, said Commissioner of Railway Safety (CRS) Sailesh Kumar Yadav after inspecting the track on Tuesday.

Yadav also carried out an inspection of the track on July 31, but was not fully convinced about its safety aspect due to some shortcomings at certain spots. He, however, was satisfied after carrying out a fresh inspection on Tuesday.

I am fully satisfied with the quality of work. The inspection was conducted by a train having 11 coaches, which travelled at a speed of more than 100 km per hour, he told media persons at the Agartala Railway Station.

I will submit a favourable recommendation to the Railway authorities for commencing the passenger train service. It is up to them to decide on the date for starting the service, he said.

There is no level crossing on the 22-km track, making it a unique one. The Railways has decided to free BG tracks of level crossings by 2022.

Once the Railway Board gives its clearance, there will be no hurdle in flagging off the passenger train service from Agartala to Sabroom, the States southernmost border subdivision.

According to sources, the NFR is all geared up to introduce a passenger train service from Agartala to Sabroom by the first week of next month.

Chief Minister Bipab Kumar Deb has already conveyed to the Railways that he wants to flag off the passenger train service before the Durga Puja.
