Trinamool to field candidates in Assam polls

By The Assam Tribune

ITANAGAR, March 2 With a view to expand its base to North East, the Mamta Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress will contest the forthcoming Assembly elections in Assam slated next month. We are putting up candidates in all 126 seats and hopefully we will be able to give a good show for the first time in Assam, Rajya Sabha member K D Singh said during a press conference here this afternoon.

Singh, the partys observer for North East, was visiting the State to inaugurate the Trinamool State office.

Regarding Trinamools expectation on the poll prospects in Assam, Singh said his party would perform well in the battle of ballots in Assam.

On the poll strategy in Assam, Singh said it would contest on the plank of development, corruption-free and transparent governance.

We want to usher in a corruption-free environment in Assam with emphasis on development, which is still lacking. If development is possible in Bihar why not in Assam? he wondered.

Referring to the Trinamool Congress securing five seats in its maiden entry into Arunachal politics in 2009 elections, he said we are serious about States development and our Ministers will extend all possible help to facilitate growth of this land-locked State.

The recent appointment of Toko Sheetal, a lady as the partys President in Arunachal unit clearly indicates our efforts on women empowerment, he pointed out. PTI
