By Correspondent

IMPHAL, March 10 Political parties in Manipur have geared up their election activities by announcing their candidates for the Lok Sabha polls scheduled for April 9 and 17.

The All India Trinamool Congress will be fielding former MP Kim Gangte, Manipurs first woman MP from Outer Manipur constituency seat while Sarangthem Manaobi Singh will contest in Inner Manipur constituency.

Earlier, ten non-Congress and non-BJP political parties have named CPI state secretary Dr Moirangthem Nara as their common candidate for the upcoming Lok Sabha election for Inner Manipur constituency.

Unlike in the past, the Manipur Peoples Party is yet to name its candidates for the forthcoming polls. The ruling Congress party is also yet to announce its candidates. However, informed sources claimed that both the sitting MPs Dr T Meinya of the Inner Manipur constituency and Thangso Baite of Outer Manipur parliamentary constituency are likely to get party tickets for the forthcoming Lok Sabha polls. Interestingly, about a dozen candidates have filed applications seeking Congress tickets for the election.

Those seeking Congress tickets for the Outer Manipur seat include sitting MP Thangso Baite and former State Education Minister DD Thaisii.

Sitting MP Dr Meiyna, and three others are seeking ticket for the Inner Manipur seat.
