Tributes to Mamoni Goswami

NORTH LAKHIMPUR, Dec 2 � Rich tributes were paid to literary legend, Jnanpith Award-winning novelist, academician and peace interlocutor Dr Mamoni Raisom Goswami in North Lakhimpur.

Author of Mamore Dhora Tarual, Datal Hatir Unwe Khowa Haoda, Jakhmi Jatri, Adhalekha Dastabej, Thengkhafri Tahsildarar Tamar Taruwal, Neelakanthi Braj, Udaybhanu Adi Charitra etc., she was remembered by people at various tribute-paying ceremonies in the district.

Dr Goswami had last visited North Lakhimpur in January, 2003 as an invited guest at the inaugural ceremony of the North Lakhimpur edition of Asomiya Pratidin.

A condolence meeting was held at North Lakhimpur Sahitya Sabha Bhawan where tributes were paid by the Asam Sahitya Sabha, Jatiya Beerbhoomi, Lions Club and other organisations. The meeting resolved to set up statues of Dr Bhupen Hazarika and Dr Mamoni Raisom Goswami together on the same platform at Jatiya Beerbhoomi, North Lakhimpur.

Condolence and tribute-paying ceremonies were also organised by AASU, AJYCP, District Congress (I) Committee, IPTA, NABIK, North Lakhimpur Press Club, North Lakhimpur Municipality Board, North Lakhimpur College, Lakhimpur Commerce College, Lakhimpur Girls College, North Lakhimpur Bar Association, AAKRASU, HYCP etc.

Namrup Correspondent adds: The death of noted Assamese litterateur and recipient of the prestigious Jnanpith Award, Dr Mamoni Raisom Goswami was condoled here by different organisations including Namrup Sambadik Mancha, Namrup Anchalik Students� Union, Namrup branch of Asam Sahitya Sabha, Namrup unit of AJYCP.
