Tributes to Bhupenda by Maligaon Sahitya Sabha

GUWAHATI, Nov 8 � Maligaon Sahitya Sabha observed the third death anniversary of music legend Dr Bhupen Hazarika with a day-long programme on November 5 at its own office premises in a befitting manner, a press release received here stated.

In order to commemorate the occasion, the Sabha flag was hoisted by president Ibrahim Ali at 8.30 am, followed by placing of floral wreath at the portrait of Dr Hazarika by Prabin Das.

As per the programme chalked out, a discourse on the topic �Evaluation of Dr Hazarika�s songs towards communal harmony� was held at 6 pm under the chairmanship of Dulal Bharali, working president and Ananta Bhattacharjee, a renowned poet as the resource person.

Surjya Kanta Dev Sarma, former president in his inaugural speech stressed upon proper analysis of the songs composed by the music maestro for spreading the message of communal harmony, peace and unity.

Sutapa Tilak, an active member also dwelt upon various aspects of the songs which are very appealing from the humanitarian point of view. Child artist Jeuti Moni Biswas presented a dance to the tune of a Bhupendra Sangeet which was applauded by the audience present.

Further, Jyoti Prasad Bora and students from Bishnu Jyoti Chitra Kala Mahavidyalaya of Maligaon, namely Barnali, Simi, Bitopan and Pratham presented Bhupendra Sangeet and enthralled the audience by their soulful renditions.

Dwijendra Nath Sarma, secretary of Maligaon Sahitya Sabha subsequently offered the vote of thanks.
