Tributes paid to noted litterateur

NALBARI, July 1 - Rich tributes were paid to renowned litterateur Dr Harinath Sarmadoloi on his death anniversary at a function organised by Nalbari Zila Sahitya Sabha at Nalbari IMA Bhavan on Saturday. In this connection, a meeting was organised which was presided over byDr Bipin Chandra Kalita, president of Nalbari Zila Sahitya Sabha and it was inaugurated by Ashok Sarma, MLA of Nalbari Legislative Assembly Constituency.

Speaking at the meeting, MLA Sarma called upon the Zila Sahitya Sabha to take steps for installation of a statue of late Harinath Sarmadoloi at Nalbari town. He assured all possible help from his side to install the statue. Later, the Nalbari Zila Sahitya Sabha decided to erect a statue of the noted litterateur.

Paying tributes to the scholar, Dr Basanta Kumar Bhattacharya, recalled his contributions towards the Assamese society. Dr Bhattacharya said that the readers who wish to study ancient Assamese literature, should read the books of Sarmadoloi.

A book titled Asamiya Saibya Sahitya written by late Harinath Sarmadoloi and republished on the occasion was released by Kanak Chandra Sarma, former vice-president of Asam Sahitya Sabha. The meeting was addressed among others by Dr Daksheswar Deka, Principal of Rangiya College and Dhrubajyoti Sarma,vice president of Nalbari Zila Sahitya Sabha. Earlier, Atul Sarma, secretary of the Sabha explained the purpose of the meeting.
