NALBARI, Sept 23 - Rich tributes were paid to martyr Mukunda Kakati at his birth place, Barbhag in Nalbari district on his 74th death anniversary on September 20.
At Dharmakanta Deka Kshetra of Kalag, the tribute-paying meeting started with the hoisting of the flag by Dr Bhumidhar Barman, president of Swahid Mukunda Kakati Memorial Trust. It was followed by garlanding the portrait of Mukunda Kakati.
Other programmes included spot essay, quiz and patriotic song competition in the morning session.The meeting presided over by Dr Bhumidhar Barman,Minister of Revenue, Relief and Rehabilitation, was addressed among others by Bijoya Chakravarty, MP of Guwahati, Dr Nazrul Islam, Minister of Health. A souvenir brought out on the occasion was released by Rajat Kalita.
The martyr was also remembered at another function held on the Swahid Mukunda Kakati Civil hospital premises.The meeting presided over by Dr Om Prakash, Deputy Commissioner of Nalbari, was addressed by Dr Bhumidhar Barman and Dr Nazrul Islam. The meeting was also attended by noted critic Sashi Sarma, senior citizen Hemanta Dutta and freedom fighter Phanindra Nath Kalita. Earlier, the guests offered garlands on the statute of Swahid Mukunda Kakati.
