Tributes paid to Hemanga Biswas

KALIABOR, June 8 � A public meet was held under the auspices of Indian Public Trade Association, Kaliabor unit at Jakhlabandha HS School on June 3 with a view to pay tributes to a great artist, Hemanga Biswas on his birth anniversary.

In this connection, a discussion was held on the subject � �Public trade movement and Hemanga Biswas: its relevance� where Udayaditya Bharali. ex-principal, Cotton College, Dr Paramananda Mazumdar, lecturer, GW and Bhupen Sarma, subject teacher participated in the discussion.

The meet was inaugurated by Upendra Borkataky, former lecturer of Lumding College while it was conducted by Sohil Mitra, ex-teacher. Borkataky in his inaugural speech disclosed the relation between the Assamese society, culture and Hemanga Biswas which had great importance.

Bharali taking part in the discussion highlighted various significant features of the accomplishments of Hemang Biswas while Dr P Mazumder delivered a speech on the role and contributions of Hemanga Biswas in regard to Assamese culture and its development etc. Bhupen Sarma also highlighted Biswas�s contributions. Among others LN Saikia also spoke a few words as invited guest. Earlier, Promod Bhuyan introduced the guests and welcomed all while Pabitra Saikia explained the objective of the meet.
