Tributes paid to carnage victims

BISWANATH CHARIALI, Jan 12 � Tributes were paid on Sunday to the 30 innocent people who had lost their lives on December 23 last at the hands of NDFB (S) cadres at Phulbari, Sonajuli village in Biswanath subdivision in Sonitpur district.

Thousands of people from all over the district thronged the �rajahuwa shradha� organised by the AATSAA, AASAA and Chautali Students� Union in association with AASU, AJYCP, AKSU, AGSU, AMSU and Biswanath District Journalists� Union.

The programmes included �shradhanjali�, all faith prayer and �smrti charan sabha�. People from all walks of life paid tributes to the departed souls of those people who were the victims of the Phulbari carnage. A souvenir edited by Bhaben Kumar was also released on the occasion. Taking part in the �smrti charan sabha�, speakers condemned the ghastly act of the extremists and demanded stern action against them. They also urged the Government to take timely action for the rehabilitation of the victims of the carnage. Sonitpur DC, Lalit Gogoi, Biswanath SP Manabendra Dev Roy, leaders of the students� bodies, among others, were present on the occasion. The programme was conducted by Sarbeswar Marandi.
