MANGALDAI, Sept 8 - Paying rich tributes to musical maestro Dr Bhupen Hazarika on his 89th birth anniversary, Darrang DRDA, dedicated to the public three open stages along with parks constructed in the memory of the legendary artiste in three different development blocks today.
One such �Mukali Mancha� at village Hirapara under Pub Mangaldai Development Block was inaugurated by Minister for Fisheries, Water Resource and Industry and Commerce Basanta Das amid much of enthusiasm. The memorial stage constructed by the Darrang DRDA under the supervision of Pub Mangaldai Development Block at a estimated cost of Rs 10 lakh wore an attractive look with its walls adorning three evergreen songs of the legendary artiste � Asom Amar Rupahi Gunaru Nai Sesh�, Sagar Sangamat Katana Saturilo.. and Kahuwa Bon Ashanta Mon.
Speaking at the function, Basanta Das offered his heartfelt tributes to Sudhakantha and said that the legendary son of Assam had spent his childhood days on the banks of the river Bega in Mangaldai as his father was serving as Sub-Deputy Collector (SDC) then. He also appealed to all sections of the villagers to ensure proper maintenance of the stage and to organize cultural functions, particularly the birth and death anniversaries of Dr Hazarika regularly.
The inaugural function was also attended, among others, by Darrang Deputy Commissioner Manoj Kumar, Project Director of Darrang DRDA Bibhash Modi, DIPRO Samar Kalita, President of Darrang District Congress Committee Debabrata Dutta. The function anchored by local teacher Nilamani Kalita also witnessed rendering of songs by prominent young singers like Dharitri Kalita,Tutu Hazarika, Antarikhsa Kalita. However, the highlight of the function was the presentation of the inaugural chorus Manuhe Manuhor Babey, in which all the invited guests including the minister participated.
Meanwhile, according to the DRDA sources, two other memorial stages have been inaugurated at Dalgaon Town Field under Besimari Development Block and at Deomornoi under Sipajhar Development Block. However, due to flood situation, the memorial stages at Kopati under Dalgaon-Sialmari Development Block and at Rangamati under Paschim Mangaldai Development Block could not be inaugurated.
