Tribute paid to late educationist

PATACHARKUCHI, Oct 9 - Glowing tributes were paid today by various sections of people of the Bajali subdivision to Jiban Krishna Patra, scholar, litterateur, educationist and retired lecturer of Geography, who died recently.

Patra, who was born in Odisha, had spent the greater part of his life at Pathsala and contributed to various fields. Two separate programmes were held to mark the adyashradda of the late educationist � one at the Bajali College and the other at Harimandir, Pathsala, under the aegis of the Pathsala Press Club. A large number of people, students and ex-students thronged the two venues and recalled the contributions of Patra.

The meeting at the Bajali College was presided over by Dr Bhupendra Talukdar, president of the Bajali College Teachers� Association. The college also decided to name the present museum of the Geography Department after Patra and institute an award for final year postgraduate students of Geography, open book shelves in the name of the late educationist and hold memorial lectures on the day of his demise.

A documentary on Patra�s life made by Prof Ananta Mohan Sarma was also screened on the occasion.
