NEW DELHI, Aug 12 - Several tribal groups under aegis of National Federation for Smaller States on Wednesday staged a demonstration demanding creation of new States. The group led by All Bodo Students Union (ABSU) staged a three-hour-long dharna at Jantar Mantar here pressing for solution of their demand.

In a joint memorandum to the Prime Minister, eight organisations appealled that the NDA Government should immediately formulate a concrete policy to create new States for all the regions wherever such demands exist specifically for Northeastern States.

The Federation further said that they have decided to launch a mass democratic movement for creation of new States in their respective regions. It also decided to send a high level delegation comprising leaders of different separate State demand groups to meet the Prime Minister and Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh to press for creation of smaller States, namely, Bodoland, Gorkhaland, Dimaraji, Tipraland, Kukiland, and Autonomous State in Karbi Anglong, Vidarbha, Garoland, Bundelkhand, Bhil Pradesh and Harit Pradesh.

The organisation also welcomed the Naga Peace Accord signed between Government of India and NSCN (I-M). We also urge upon the Government of India to come forward with concrete steps to address such other similar issues.
