Trial run of BG engine in Dima Hasao

GUWAHATI, Nov 8 � A broad gauge (BG) diesel engine rolled out on a trial basis from Patharkhola to Debalong, a distance of 26 km, on November 6, making it a historic day for the people of Dima Hasao and Cachar districts. At 9.25 am on November 6, the engine left Patharkhola and moved over on the newly-constructed broad gauge track crossing Manderdisa and Hatikhali stations to reach Debalong around 12.45 pm. After the trial run, the engine returned to reach Patharkhola at 3:35 pm.

Apart from this, as part of the mega block works, MG/BG cut and connect activities at 90 out of 102 locations have been completed and 8 lakh cum of earthwork has since been done during the mega block out of 12 lakh cum.

The track linking of BG lines is also progressing satisfactorily at various locations along the Lumding-Silchar route and it is expected that the entire project work will be completed within the targeted date of March 31, 2015. RP Jinger, Chief Engineer/Con-1, NF Railway, and other senior officials were present in the trial run on the newly-converted section, stated an NF Railways press release.
