AGARTALA, May 30 Agartala-Kolkata direct bus service via Dhaka would be flagged off by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Bangladesh counterpart Sheikh Hasina on June 6, according to sources.
West Bengal Transport Secretary Alapan Banerjee has informed Tripura Government that a trial run for the bus service would be conducted on June 1 next.
A bus with a team of officials will leave Benapool for Agartala on June 1. At Dhaka, the bus will halt a night and next morning it is expected to enter Akhaura Check Post (Agartala), he mentioned in a letter.
Speaking to media at Civil Secretariat here on Friday, Tripura Transport Minister Manik Dey confirmed the schedule for the trial run between Kolkata and Agartala.
Modi would be reaching Dhaka on June 6 on a two-day visit. During the visit, Teesta Water-sharing accord, decision of leasing submarine Internet bandwidth to India and inauguration of Kamalasagar border haat in Tripuras Sepahijala district are in the pipeline. Recently, a meeting between Addl DM of Brahambari district and Addl DM of Sepahijala district was held at Kamalasagar to prepare the ground for the formal inauguration of the border haat.
Earlier, a border haat was inaugurated by Union Minister for Commerce Nirmala Sitharaman early this year at Srinagar in Sabroom subdivision and the border haat is doing well.
Interestingly, Tripura Chief Minister Manik Sarkar was not invited to accompany Prime Minister during his Dhaka visit although West Bengal Chief Minister was invited.
