Tremor hits NE

SHILLONG, April 25 � The aftershocks of the Nepal tremor was also felt in the State Capital here. However, there was no damage or injury reported from anywhere in the State.

According to officials from the Central Seismological Centre based here, the quake hit the State Capital and its adjoining areas at 11.41 am and lasted for a few seconds.

Meghalaya Chief Secretary PBO Warjri, meanwhile, said that there was no report of damage or injury reported from anywhere in the State due to the tremor.

Imphal Correspondent adds: Strong tremors lasting well over a minute was felt across Manipur at around 11.41 am today. In Imphal, people were seen running out of their houses after houses shook while water bodies at ponds moved for well over a minute. However there are not reports of human casualty in Manipur.

A PTI report adds: In Sikkim, a major earthquake rocked the State today, triggering landslides in various parts. The quake, having its epicentre in Nepal, was felt at about 11.48 am, officials said. A series of minor landslides have been reported from various places in the State, but there was no report of any loss of life so far, they said. Sikkim has been experiencing minor jolts continuously for the past three days, Met department said.

Aizawl: Mild tremors were felt in Aizawl and other parts of Mizoram today creating panic among the people. The tremor was experienced at around 11.45 am, Geology and Mineral Resources department officials said. No casualty or damage to property was reported from any part of the State, government officials said.
