By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, Nov 5 - Transport Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary today flagged off six Volvo buses and launched the newly developed android-based ASTC mobile application which will bring ticket booking closer to the consumers.

The introduction of Volvo service from Guwahati to Shillong and Guwahati to Itanagar has scripted a new chapter in the history of the Assam State Transport Corporation. The dedicated mobile app launched today is just another feather in our cap, Patowary said speaking at the function organised at ISBT, Betkuchi.

Citizens can now book their tickets at their convenience from anywhere within the State or country for travel within Assam and neighbouring states.

The Minister said that ASTC is committed to improving its services through positive changes in internal governance, infrastructure, IT-enabled services, easy access to public, quality and effective and efficient services.

Patowary talked at length on a slew of measures taken during the rule of the present government for development of the ASTC and its service to the people of the State. He also spoke about the increase in the transport departments revenue compared to the previous years.

The Minister also spoke on the immense possibility that opening of the Chittagong Port and the sea link for India would bring to the regions trade and commerce sector. He deliberated on how four-laning of national highways, double-tracking of railways, connecting to six capitals of ASEAN through international flights, etc., will benefit the people of this region.

Speaking on the occasion, Chairman of ASTC Ashok Bhattarai said that ASTC is an important component of the identity of the States transport system. He expressed his hope that with all its successful milestones in the past and with help and cooperation from all the stakeholders, the Corporation would script a new chapter of progress and prosperity in the future.

The Volvo buses will be operated by Chartered Speed Private Limited on PPP mode. Tickets can be booked through the newly launched ASTC mobile application and ASTC website.
