By Correspondent

GOLAGHAT, Sept 3 The Golaghat district administration had totally failed to protect the lives and properties of the Assamese people livening along the Assam- Nagaland border. In the recent conflict at Uriumghat area, the Nagas had burnt down many houses, killed several people and encroached on a large area. Inspite of continuous encroachment and other heinous crimes like killings, kidnappings etc., by the Nagas, the Golaghat district administration and police force has failed to take stern measures against the culprits.

Encroachment and anti- social activities are continuing on the Assamese people of the border areas. The student bodies of Golaghat launched an agitation programme on August 30 against the district administration for their failure to maintain peace and law-and-order situation. Bodies like the Golaghat District Students Union, All Bodo Students Union, Scheduled Caste Students Union, ASSA, Chutia Students Union, TMRK, Rabha Jatiya Parishad etc., launched the protest rally in front of the office of the Deputy Commissioner. The student bodies vehemently criticised the inaction of the district administration and asked the State Government to transfer the DC and the SP of Golaghat immediately.

The student bodies demanded proper protection to the affected people in Uriumghat, to rehabilate the displaced people, to distribute relief properly and to set up Assam police camps in the disturbed area.
