Training programme for meat sellers

GUWAHATI, Aug 11 - A daylong awareness-cum-training programme for meat sellers under the Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) area was organised by the civic body at the College of Veterinary Science auditorium here today, stated a press release.

Inaugurating the programme, Mayor Abir Patra highlighted the duties of meat sellers. GMC Commissioner Narayan Konwar said that such programmes are aimed at ensuring hygienic meat processing in the city. The Dean of the Faculty of Veterinary Science, Dr Rabindra Kumar Goswami and Paresh Kalita, chairman, Finance, GMC�s Mayor-in-Council, also spoke on the occasion.

Dr Mineswar Hazarika stressed the need of slaughter houses for hygienic meat, while associate professor Dr Surav Kumar Laskar explained how meat could be processed in a hygienic manner. Dr Sasanka Shekhar Dutta, a co-opted member of the Animal Welfare Board of India, spoke on hygienic meat production and animal welfare. GMC Veterinary Officer Dr Manoj Kumar Goswami spoke on the rules and regulations concerning the Guwahati meat business. Guwahati Meat Sellers� Association secretary Md Mokbul Hussain lauded the GMC for organising the programme.
