Training on seed production held

TEZPUR, Sept 27 - The Sonitpur Krishi Vigyan Kendra organised a two-day training programme on quality seed production under the Assam Agribusiness and Rural Transformation Project (APART).

The programme was conducted at KVK campus where more than 30 farmers participated. The training programme was inaugurated by Dr PC Deka, Professor and Head, KVK, Sonitpur.

It may be mentioned here that APART being funded by World Bank, has been implemented by the Government of Assam through different implementing agencies like International Rice Research Institute (IRRI), World Vegetable Centre, International Potato Research Institute and Assam Agricultural University. Under this programme, this year in kharif season, stress-tolerant rice varieties (STRV�s) like Ranjit Sub I, Bahadur Sub I and Swarna Sub I were provided to over 300 farmers in the district through Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Sonitpur.

Md Abdul Raoof Khan, who is an expert in the agriculture field, acted as a resource person. Pankaj Barman, Junior Research fellow, IRRI, Mridupawan Saikia, Project Associate Dibyarishi Bhattacharjya and scientists from KVK attended the programme.
