Training for woman scientists held

GUWAHATI, Sept 7 - A five-day international training programme, �Leadership and Career Development for Woman Scientists and Technologists�, hosted by city-based Indian Institute of Entrepreneurship (IIE) concluded here on Sunday.

A total of 44 participants from around the world, including 30 from the north-eastern region, attended the programme, said a statement.

The programme was sponsored by the Department of Science and Technology of the Government of India, in collaboration with IIE.

US Ambassador to India Richard Rahul Verma and State Chief Secretary Vinod K Pipersenia inaugurated the training programme.

Dr Asha Kishor, Director of Shree Chitra Tireunal Institute for Medical Sciences & Technology, Trivandrum, was the keynote speaker.

Four international faculties from COACH International came from the USA to attend the programme.

Kiran, a division of the Department of Science and Technology, in partnership with the Indo-US Science and Technology Forum and COACH International, has taken the initiative to come out with such exposures for the woman scientists and technologists in the international level.

The objective of the programme was to put forward a platform for the women in the north-eastern region to develop their careers in respective fields.
