By STAFF Reporter

GUWAHATI, Jan 4 Train services to north Assam resumed today after a gap of two years with the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) flagging off passenger service in the recently converted Rangiya-Rangapara North-Dekargaon section.

NFR PRO Nripen Bhattacharya said that the first train in the section, KamakhyaDekargaon Intercity Express, started from Kamakhya Railway Station at 4 pm today.

The New JalpaiguriNew Bongaigaon Passenger train would be extended up to Dekargaon from January 5, while the Rangiya-Dekargaon Intercity will start operating on a daily basis from tomorrow as well.

The new service comes following completion of the gauge conversion project in the section which took around two years. The meter gauge services in the section had been halted before the project was taken up.

A total of 144.48 km of tracks were converted to broad gauge. Bhattacharya added that work is on at war-footing to complete the gauge conversion project in the remaining portion of the Rangiya-Murkongselek section.
