Trafficked girl child rescued at Gogamukh

By Correspondent

NORTH LAKHIMPUR, Nov 6 - A ten-year-old girl was rescued from human traffickers in Gogamukh in Lakhimpur district on Sunday. The victim Gyan Pegu, daughter of Indreswar Pegu and Labanya Pegu from Nalbari, Torajan of Dhemaji district was sold to one Kengo Lomi of Itanagar, Arunachal Pradesh and was taken by her own parents in a car with the buyer when she was rescued by the public. The parents of the girl child had contracted to send their daughter to Kengo Lomi with an annual payment of Rs 36,000 and a contract deed was also made on a stamp paper. They were all detained when they stopped at Gogamukh to make a photocopy of the contract deed.

It has been learnt that Indreswar Pegu was not the actual father of the victim. The public detained them at Gogamukh and handed them over to the police. However, it is reported that the police at the Gogamukh PS let Kengo Lumi leave. The incident once again reminds the rampant human trafficking in the districts of Lakhimpur and Dhemaji bordering with Arunachal Pradesh.
