Traffic snarl throws life out of gear in Shillong

By The Assam Tribune

SHILLONG, March 23 The capital city today witnessed one of the worst traffic congestion that threw life out of gear for several hours at a stretch. Heavy machinery of BHEL, bound for a cement plant in Jaintia Hills district, fell off a truck at Jawai area of the city, bringing to halt traffic movement in the adjoining areas, the Traffic Department said. Gradually almost all the major roads were blocked for hours, including the entry point from Ri Bhoi district and the NH 44 connecting Assam through Jaintia Hills district. It took several hours for the cranes to remove the machinery from the road. School and office goers were severely affected as vehicles remained stranded on the roads for hours together. PTI
