Traffic restored on landslide-hit Manipur highway

By Correspondent

IMPHAL, Oct 29 - Normal traffic along the 110-km Imphal-Mao sector of the National Highway 2 in Senapati district was restored on Wednesday after nearly a week. On October 23, the highway was completely cut off following a massive landslide due to incessant rains. More than 100 Imphal-bound goods trucks were stranded along the highway.

An alternative road has been constructed at Khongnem Thana village in Senapati district, 72 km north of Imphal, on the sunken portion of the highway. Manipur PWD officials stated that the restoration of the highway to its previous state would take more time.

Earlier, Manipur Public Health Engineering Minister L Dikho had inspected the construction of the alternative road at the landslide-hit area. Dikho is an MLA from Senapati district.
