Traffic jam forces adjournment of House

By Correspondent

ITANAGAR, March 5 The Arunachal Pradesh Assembly at Naharlagun on Wednesday created a record of sort with the adjournment of the House for an hour without taking up any business!

When the clock struck 10.10 am, senior member Laeta Umbrey in the chair adjourned the House for an hour as Speaker Wanglin Lowangdong, Deputy Speaker Jomde Kena, Chief Minister Nabam Tuki and several Ministers and members could not reach the Assembly on time because of a traffic jam between Itanagar and Naharlagun. The distance between Itanagar and Naharlagun is 14 km.

Despite tall claims by the State Government to solve the traffic problem by constructing bye-lane, flyover, etc, no headway has so far been made till date. Traffic jams have been a regular phenomenon for citizens of Itanagar as long queues of vehicles are seen time and again during peak hours along National Highway-52A, the only lifeline of the twin capital town of Itanagar and Naharlagun.

Though there is an alternate road from Itanagar to Naharlagun via Jully village, but its condition is not suitable for movement of vehicles.
