IMPHAL, Feb 16 � In a move to promote the ancient sporting heritage of Manipuri traditional polo �Sagol Kangjei� and indigenous sports in the State, the 3rd 57 Mountain Division Polo Tournament started under the sponsorship of 57 Mountain Division at the historic pologround in the heart of Imphal today.

The tournament which is organised by the Manipur Horse Riding and Polo Association (MHRPA) since the last three years, will witness 12 different teams in action in the 8-day event which will conclude on February 23.

Stating that the tourney was organized in an effort to uplift local talents, Brigadier KB Chand who is the Deputy General Officer in Commanding of the 57 Mountain Division speaking on the occasion, said such events would help in bridging the gap between the people and Army.

Many polo lovers watched the day�s inaugural match which was won by Imphal Riding Club defeating Chingkhei Hunba Polo Club (B) 5-1.
