SILCHAR, June 28 - A former employee of Silchar Municipal Board and a frontline trade union leader in Barak Valley, Paritosh Dey passed away on Monday at the Silchar Medical College and Hospital at 11:15 pm after suffering a massive cardiac arrest. He was 63.

Dey is survived by his brothers and sisters. Popularly known as Shibu da among his colleagues and peers, Paritosh Dey was actively associated with Barak Uppotyokya Banga Sahitya O Sanskritik Sammelan as the secretary of the Sammelan�s Cachar District Committee.

Meanwhile, the news of the demise of Paritosh Dey cast a pall of gloom across Silchar and around the district. Known to be an amiable person to young and old, the mortal remains of Paritosh Dey was brought to the Banga Bhawan on Tuesday where members of the organisation paid their last tributes.

A large number of people who were closely associated with the departed union leader, carried the mortal remains of Paritosh Dey to Silchar Municipal Board where the chairperson of the civic board NN Tagore, commissioners and other staff members of the board offered their last respects. His last rites were performed at the Silchar crematorium later in the day.
