By City Correspondent

GUWAHATI, May 25 - I believe in Left ideology and want development of every section of people in our country, said Gunjan Das, who secured 10th rank in the Arts stream in the Higher Secondary Final Examination from the Assam Jatiya Bidyalay here.

A civil service aspirant, Gunjan said, Now I will enrol in a college under Delhi University and simultaneously start preparing for the civil service examination as I have been nurturing the dream of becoming an IAS officer since class six. In the undergraduate level I will take political science as my major subject which will be helpful in the civil service examination.

Gunjan further said, I want to join civil service so that I can contribute in the governance process of the country. Civil servants are the people who play the key role in every aspect of governance. In this profession there is a lot of scope to do something good for society. Today, we see inequality in every part of the country. I want to do something to eliminate this inequality.

He added that inequality has unabatedly surfaced in the country due to the expansion of rightist ideology and development of the corporate sector. He however asserted that there is a need to develop both the corporate sector and the living condition of the common people.

Speaking about his success mantra, he said, My teachers and parents were always with me. They provided all possible help at every step. Moreover, I used to study around eight hours before the final examination.

Saptadweep Saha, who secured sixth rank in the Science stream from Sai Vikash Junior College, said, I want to become a doctor. I will also pursue higher studies in genetics. I want to do research in this field as most of the diseases are linked with human genetics and through genetic science human civilisation will be able to eliminate many dangerous diseases in future. With this purpose I also want to go abroad for higher studies.

Talking about his aim to serve society, Saha said, After becoming a doctor, I will get tremendous opportunity to serve society. I want to serve the weaker and poor section who are deprived of good medical facilities due to financial hardships.

Son of a city-based physician, Saha said physics, human physiology and organic chemistry are some of his favourite subjects.

My preparation for the higher secondary final examination was totally goal-based and I used to set up specific targets for completing some lessons every day. Moreover, I always focused on improving myself rather than competing with others. I think it is the best way to get a good result. For this success, first of all, I want to thank the Almighty and then my parents and teachers, he said.

Commenting on the impact of the internet and social media in the present times, he said, I find internet very useful as I can clear many doubts through Google search. But Facebook and Twitter are not important for me at present. But WhatsApp is important as it helps me consult with my teachers.

Jiban Jyoti Kalita of the same institution also secured eighth rank in the Science stream in this examination.

Talking to The Assam Tribune, Kalita said, During preparation I mainly concentrated on my college classes and studied for about five hours daily. Now I want to pursue engineering. Later I would like to develop agricultural tools, so that our farmers can benefit from them.

Jiban stated that the internet proved very useful for him through which he had interacted with many prominent teachers of the country before the examination.

To me social media is a tool for refreshment. But I never waste time on it. I also read books in my spare time, he added.
