Top players to be in action in PSPB tennis

GUWAHATI, Dec 5 - National tennis stars like Rohan Bopanna, Yuki Bhambri, Vishnu Vardhan, Ramkumar Ramanathan, Rushmi Chakravorty, Prerana Bhambri, among others will be seen in action in the 37th Petroleum Sports Promotion Board (PSPB) Inter Unit Tennis Tournament which will kick start at the All Assam Tennis Association�s complex in Chachal here tomorrow.

Giving details about the championship, organising body officials, Hiren Chandra Bora, Jayanta Baruah, Jadab Kalita, Tridib Duvarah, who are also senior officers of the Oil India Limited (OIL) revealed that altogether seven premier public sector petroleum companies � ONGC, OIL, IOCL, BPCL, HPCL, GAIL and NRL will participate in the five-day championship.

The tournament will be inaugurated by OIL CMD Utpal Bora tomorrow at 2.30pm.

The championship will feature team events for men, women and veterans. In the open category, competitions will be conducted for men and women singles and doubles, veterans� singles and doubles.

The All Indian Tennis Association will provide technical support for conducting the championship, informed organising secretary Tridib Duvarah.

Jayanta Barua said that as all the top players of the country are in the petroleum companies, it will be a high-voltage event and tough contest can be expected in both men and women categories.

OIL will field players like Anshuman Dutta, Chandra Sekhar Mohanty in regular category while Hakim Ali will lead in the veterans category.
